Christianity is explored in many different ways. Some people begin by reading the Bible or learning about the life of Jesus. Others start with questions about faith, prayer, God, meaning or the relationship between Christianity and other religions.

Alexandria Library is a bookshop and community space on Manchester's Curry Mile. People from many different countries, cultures and beliefs come through our doors every week — to browse books, meet people, join activities and sometimes simply to ask questions about the Bible, Jesus and Christianity.​

A place where questions are welcome

 

Perhaps you are curious about Christianity, have questions about Jesus or the Bible, or are simply wondering what you believe. You may have grown up with another faith, have no religious background at all, or have been quietly exploring Christianity for some time. Whatever your background, you are welcome!

Our staff and volunteers are happy to listen and chat. You are free to ask difficult questions, disagree with us, or simply listen and explore at your own pace.​

Explore the Bible for yourself

 

Our bookshop has Bibles and Christian books in English and a range of other languages, including Arabic.

​

If you have never read the Bible before, we are happy to help you find somewhere to start. You are also welcome simply to browse and explore for yourself.

​

Bible discussions and other Christian activities are regularly held at Alexandria Library by local churches and Christian groups. Some are particularly suitable for people who are new to the Bible or still exploring what they believe. You don't have to commit to a belief join a Bible discussion — questions are welcome.

Want to explore a local group or church?

 

If you would like to join a local small group or visit a church, we can help you find a welcoming local Christian community in Manchester.

​

Churches can be a good place to meet other Christians, hear the Bible explained, ask questions and explore Christian worship. You don't need to be a Christian to attend a church service.

 

Different churches have different styles and traditions, so we can help you find one that suits your background, interests and comfort level. You are welcome to ask us about local churches, whether you are ready to visit soon. you can explore a list of local churches in Rusholme, Moss Side, and Fallowfield.

Some people are more interested in exploring at their own pace or researching online. Alexandria Library is first of all a bookshop, so you are welcome simply to walk in, look around and have a chat.

Alexandria Library is on Wilmslow Road, in the heart of Manchester's Curry Mile in Rusholme. You can simply visit during our normal bookshop opening hours. There is no need to make an appointment if you just want to browse or say hello.​

Are you a student? 

​

If you're an international student in Manchester or Salford, iCafé is a great place to meet new people and feel more at home in the city. Run by local Christians from Friends International, iCafé is free and open to international students from universities, colleges and language schools, whatever your faith or background.

​

Come along to make friends from around the world, practise your English, play games, learn about British culture and chat about life. There is also an optional Bible discussion for anyone interested in exploring questions about life and Christian faith — you are completely welcome whether you are a Christian, follow another faith, or are simply curious.
